This page is for Bebb family researchers' (Bebb-related)
interests. In particular, I'd like to collate Bebb references here
to give a good start to anyone else researching the name.
So if you have any references to Bebbs in general, or are looking
for one in particular, this is the page.

Susan King has a number of Bebb interests in the Castle Caerionion
area, with some in Newtown and Welshpool.
Her great grand father Pryce Bebb and grand father Cornelius Bebb
were lock keepers at Welshpool, and are featured on the Powys - A day in the Life web site.
The individuals mentioned at 1 Canal Lock Houses, Welshpool are:
Pryce Bebb, Sarah Bebb, Cornelius Bebb, Richard Bebb, Alice Anne Bebb,
Albert Bebb, William Henry Bebb, Ellen Bebb, Emily Bebb and baby George Bebb.
Name: William Robert Bebb (born 2/16/66,
Anaheim California)
I am the son of William Lester Bebb.
I have a wife named Barbara Palmer Bebb (born 9/6/66, Birmingham
Alabama) and a daughter Sarah Margaret Bebb (born 1/16/97,
Birmingham Alabama).
I am a television producer for EWTN Global Catholic Television,
home of Mother Angelica. My wife also works there. I've produced a
television series 30 episodes called 'BEEB-TV'. It
was NOT high brow; it was sort of a cross between Monty Python and
just plain silly.
Quick history- My father grew up in Southern California but we
luckily escaped to Alabama in the early 1970's. I will check on a
family tree document that was financed by my grandmother
approximately around 1980. I remember only one thing clearly, an
ancestor of mine served in the Civil War, on the Union side, he was
captured and placed in a southern prison till the war was over. But
as irony would have it he died after the war was won when the
riverboat he was on somehow sank while heading north on the Miss.
river.
By the way- I'm thinking about starting a campaign here in the
states to petition the government to rejoin the British Empire :)
Thoughts? -Bill

One of Robert Bell's ancestors changed his name to Bell in the last century, but before that there are Montgomeryshire roots.
"My great grandfather was William Evan Bebb, but became William Edward Bell by the time he died. So the Evan name is in our branch of the Bebbs. I don't know my great-grandfather Stephen Bebb's ancestors."
You can find more in Timothy Alan Heath Bell's family tree at //http://www.cs.mu.oz.au/~bhat/family_tree/intro.html

Dede (no current email address) has some info on:
Alfred Bebb born Sept. 17 1847 married a Mary Roberts
Children: Alfred born jan 17 1870 Coventry
Francis Henry born 1-12-1872
Mary Ann born Aug 15 1876
Frances Alice born 6-2-1874 Norfolk
Thomas Charles born 12-6-1878
John Nathaniel born 12-6-1868
[Norfolk is interesting - it's right across the other side of the country from Coventry. Perhaps no big deal in US terms but a major hike at the time. MB]
Dede Fossati met the granddaughter of Francis Henry (Frank) Bebb, who "came from The Red House Farm, Guilsfield, Welshpool, Powys, MidWales. Her great grandfather's name was Alfred Bebb. This would have been the father to Francis." Alfred could have come from Rhiwgriafal, Darowen, North Wales.
Alfred is suppose to have come to America leaving behind his wife, Mary Roberts Bebb, and six children. Two of his sons, John and Frank, came to America looking for their father. They came at different times.
John came into Halifax, Nova Scotia, then to Toronto, Ontario and to London, Ontario in April 1887. John ended up in Bay City, Michigan. Frank ended up in Custer Township around Mancelona and Alden Michigan."

From Andrew Bebb a semi retired lecturer in philosophy and theology and former priest:
My paternal grandfather (Richard Bebb) came up to Yorkshire from
Monmouthshire (he was a huntsman and seems to been delivering a
pack of hounds - we have a gorgeous picture of him in hunting
silk!) This seems to have been c.1875 or so. He met his wife whilst
working as groomsman at Myddleton Lodge, Ilkley in Yorkshire, she
was a cook in the kitchens. I understand he subsequently had livery
businesses in various parts of Yorkshire before finally settling in
Harrogate, my home town.
He had a large family and I did not know some of them because my
father was apparently a very late arrival on the scene. I do know
that Tom was the Hall Porter at the Crown Hotel in Harrogate
between the Wars and Joe was a chauffeur to a wealthy lady in the
South who drove a Rolls! One daughter I am informed was a ballet
dancer and even danced at the Palladium.

Keith is researching his family roots originating with the Bebbs in Montgomeryshire. His family line in the 1800's resulted from the marriage of William Bebb/Sarah Morris. William was from Aberhafesp Parish, MGY and Sara was from Llanwnog Parish, MGY. They moved to the Rhondda from Caersws, MGY in 1880.
William/Sarah had six children, William 1879, John 1881, Thomas 1883, Maurice 1885, Ellen 1887, Edward 1889, and Mary 1891. All the children grew up in the Rhondda in Gelli/Ton-Pentre, GLAM. After Ellen married Lewis John Williams of Treorchy in 1912 the couple moved to Warwickshire, England and Keith is their grandson.
Other lines being researched are:
LOMAS of South Warwickshire,
TRUEMAN of Stratford-on-Avon,
WILLIAMS of SRO, MGY and the Rhondda and
TIPTON of SRO.
Keith currently resides in San Diego, California.
Edward Bebb, son of William Bebb (c1724 - 1817) emigrated to Ohio. Herbert Bebb published his genealogy in 1944, which included a map: "Other towns located on this map include Hafodwen, early home of William Bebb (apparently, he moved to Tawelan after his daughters were married); and Cwmcarnedd, home of Martha Hughes, his wife." (Dave Bebb)
Land acquisition was obviously a very significant activity for US immigrants. Dede Fossati found some information about the holdings of another William Bebb, Edward's son:

Thanks to John Ballard in Australia for some corrections to the above.
Mary Margaret Jones Trice is a descendant of this line, and is
busy researching and updating its genealogy.

Frank Bebb hails from Wallace, Idaho. His father, Virgil Frank Bebb (1919-1972), a silver mine employee, was born in or near Pocatello, Idaho. His father's name was Harvey (Frank's GF)- Frank would like to hear if you recognize him.

Lester and Judith Bowen are looking for the ancestors of Maurice Bebb BOWEN. They have a little to go on:
The record in the family bible states that Mary Bebb was born on 28/3/1776 to Maurice BEBB (B:12/5/1774 at Lsyirgock) and Mary ? (B:28/3/17760). This would make her 65 in 1841. Also, I have checked my "Parish Locator" and find that Llanllwchaiarn is only 1.2 miles from Newtown which makes it quite reasonable for young Maurice Bebb BOWEN to state, in 1849, when he arrived in Australia that he was born in Newtown. His parents were both alive, along with Martha, in 1849 - we have a copy of a letter which Maurice wrote home after his arrival in Australia. He was very lonely and missed his mother very much!
Some further detail in a separate email:
Maurice BEBB - Born 12/5/1775 at "Esgirgoch", Parish of Llanbrynmair - Married Mary ? - Born 28/3/1776. Maurice and Mary BEBB were recorded at "Rock Farm". Llanllwchaiarn in 1841 Census. Maurice BEBB died 21/6/1853 and is buried in the churchyard next door to "Rock Farm". His wife Mary died 21/12/1854 and is buried with her husband. Mary BEBB - Daughter of the above, was born at Bettws* (as stated in 1851 Census) 19/9/1802. - married Thomas BOWEN in Newtown, Montgomeryshire 11/10/1819. Thomas BOWEN died 3/7/1865 and his wife Mary BOWEN (nee BEBB) died 6/10/1872. They are buried next to Maurice and Mary BEBB. Maureen Selley provided a will which seems to relate to the same family, a little earlier. Here are the key points: Will of Morris Bebb of Esgairgoth in Llanbrynmair Signed 27 April 1775 proved 13 Sep 1775 Left lease, messuage land and tenements to beloved wife Elizabeth and William, second son. to William implements of husbandry, looms and warping trough to Morris eldest son sum of one shilling to eldest daughter Ann Jones five shillings to second daughter Jane Bebb sixteen pounds to third daughter Mary Bebb sixteen pounds on condition she does not marry Richard Owen of Bellan if she marries him then five shillings to fourth daughter Hannah Bebb sixteen pounds to wife and William Jane Mary and Hannah share each of household goods Balance equally to Elizabeth and William, joint executors. Witnesses Thomas Jones (son in law?) and William Bebb. A note when will was proved suggests that Elizabeth may herself have died before September. Son Morris was either well off in his own right or not exactly popular. Was Mary his daughter?
[This family are of some interest, since they moved between Llanbrymair and Newtown at some point, demonstating a possible link between the Bebbs in those areas. Malcolm]

Joan Asboth's GG Grandmother was Sarah Bebb, born Sept 25th 1823
to Nathaniel (burial records) or John (death certificate) and and
Elizabeth Bebb (nee Evans) of Meifod, Montgomeryshire. Joan would
like to find out some more about Sarah's parents.
Sarah emigrated to Cincinnati, but we don't know if she married
David Jones before or afterwards. David was born in Wales c 1818
and died of drowning aged 49 in 1867. Despite this loss Sarah
brought up several children and lived to 97.
Joan supplied this information about some Bebbs, many of them
immigrants from Wales, buried in Spring Grove Cemetery:
"There are a number of other Bebbs buried in Spring Grove Cemetery
(4521 Spring Grove Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45232-1954. Tel (513)
681-6680 - fax (513) 581-1497 - They charge US$.50 per copy of
buried certificates. Here is the information of some of the Bebbs,
many showing Wales as their birthplace. I have no idea how these
are related, but they may fit into a bigger puzzle."
Sarah Bebb born 1923 in Meifod, Montgomeryshire, Wales died age 97 on 5 March 1920, Cincinnati Morris Bebb, born 1801 in Wales; died at age 53, on 28 October 1854, Cincinnati Ann Bebb, born 1806 in Wales; died 1806 at 45 years, on 2 June 1851. Robert Evans Bebb, born 26 Dec 1925, North Wales, died 20 Oct 1904 (son of David and Ann Bebb) Elizabeth Bebb, born 14 September 1831 in Wales, died 3 November 1910 (son of David and ______ Rowland) Maurice Bebb, born 28 February 1849 in Pennsylvania, died at 19 (Rheumatism of heart), 14 April 1868 (sons of Robert and Elizabeth Bebb) John E. Bebb, born 1850 in Cincinnati, died at age 20 on 31 July 1871 (son of Robert and Elizabeth Bebb William T. Bebb, born 1856 in Cincinnati, died at age 53 on 29 Jan 1909 (son of Robert E. and Elizabeth Edwards Bebb) Elizabeth Bebb, born 22 September 1858 in Cincinnati, died 4 July 1938 in Cincinnati (daughter of Robert E. and Elizabeth Edwards Bebb William Bebb, born 1832 in Wales, died 13 April 1900 in Cincinnati John H. Bebb, born 1861 in Cincinnati, died at 18 years on 3 May 1879 (pneumonia) (son of Elizabeth and William Bebb. William T. Bebb, born 14 September 1869 in Cincinnati, Ohio, died 22 December 1909 (son of William and Elizabeth Bebb) - burial ordered by Maurice J. Bebb. Elizabeth Bebb, born 1833 in Wales, died 15 March 1888 in Cincinnati (daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Edwards) - burial ordered by Robert Bebb Katherine Jones, born 1842 in Wales, died 8 March 1910 in Cincinnati (daughter of Edward and __________ Evans) Infant Bebb, born 8 February 1857, Cincinnati, Ohio, died 9 February 1857 (child of David O. and Mary Jane Bebb. Anna Maria Bebb (born in Ireland in 1831; died 11 December 1878 in Fairmount, Ohio. David Bebb, born unknown in approximately 1818, died at age 30 on 11 August 1848.

Bob Thomas is looking for Mary Jane Bebb, born shortly before
1887:
" my maternal grandfather (Edward Arthur PHILLIPS) married three
times - his second wife was my maternal grandmother. However, his
FIRST wife was a Mary Jane BEBB who I believe would have been born
sometime before 1887, and she died after childbirth some time
before 1915, and I would like to know more about her, if
possible.
At the time of his second marriage in 1915 my grandfather was
living in Pontypridd, so there is a possibility that his first wife
came from that area also - but that is only a guess. He was born in
Portmadoc, was put into a RAOB home when very young after his
mother died, and ran away to sea when he was 12. Where he returned
to is anybody's guess, but Pontypridd seems likely - and as good a
guess as any."
Ira Bebb (1910-1975) and his brother were put on the "Orphan Train" at Grand Island, Nebraska by their mother. Ira ended up in a home about 60 miles from Omaha Nebraska. He went on to raise a family, although his brother is thought to have died during the Depression. His mother and sister(?) remained at Grand Island.
Zoann Braasch is interested in any information about him.

John Llewellyn Bebb is researching his Welsh connections: "My
great grandfather John Llewellyn Bebb was born 1872 in Rockfield,
Conn., His father John O. Bebb and wife, Mary Rankin came from
Wales around 1870. No birth dates on them yet, it appears they may
have come from Montgomeryshire.

My great-grandfather, also John L. Bebb came to Connecticut then Troy, NY and then settled in Amsterdam, NY. He had two sons Leslie Lutton Bebb, and Warren H. Bebb, Leslie had one son, my father, Warren David Bebb (b. 1933)."
Pam Perryman is looking for Bebbs from Newtown:

"My maternal grandmother, Mary Ann Bebb (b. May 25, 1841, Newtown, Wales - d. May 7, 1880, Massachusetts, USA) emigrated to the US in the 1860's with her husband Thomas DAVIES. A great aunt had done some genealogical research on the family which revealed the following:
Mary Ann had siblings, all born in Newtown
John O. Bebb, Oct. 1836-Apr. 1923, was a fifer in the Welsh Guards
before coming to the US, an expert wool carder whose first American
employment was in Mystic, Conn.
Many of his descendants lived (and still live??) in the Amsterdam,
NY area. I'm trying to contact them now:
Is this the same family as John. L.Bebb's family, above?
The parents of these siblings were John Bebb and Mary Owens (Mary d. between 1852 and 1865?), married on Feb. 3, 1832 in Newtown. I think Mary is buried in St. Mary's, Newtown.
John Bebb's parents were Jeremiah and Mary Bebb. Jeremiah ran a woolen mill in Newtown, according to the great-aunt who did the research back in the 1930's. There was something cryptic in her notes about a disagreement about a farm, someone being /feeling? cheated and leaving Wales. Aunt Annie's notes have been lost over the years, so I'm relying on memory here.
That's as far back as I can take our Bebbs. I have an enormous family tree of the descendants of John and Mary Ann Bebb Davies (who remarried in the US to an Owen Jones and had more kids). Any connection to your Bebbs???
Some Bebbs moved to Kansas:
The owner of the family tree is Angela Oldham

Dot Rutherford used to run the Blaenau Gwent mail list. She
says:

Hi, I am Dot Rutherford, Connecticut, U. S.. I am helping Betty Evans Jones of Connecticut, formerly Treorki, GLAM, find family info and wonder if you have anything to add. Her sister, Mary Evans Bebb died in 1990 at the age of 82 in Morganstown, but had lived in Treorki. Mary's son John Bebb does pottery.
Mary's parents were Ethel Maude Jones and Josiah John Evans, they operated a fish and chips market on High St. in Treorki before 1929.
Do you have any info regarding Mary Evans Bebb, any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
Dot Rutherford
Alison Skipper is looking for Mary Bebb's family:

I have recently been sent some information, from the US, about a newly-found branch of my tree and am wondering if you have come across a Bebb whom is mentioned please? The Bebb in question is Mary, who married Francis Jones and had Jane on 6th Jan., 1840, and Evan F. on 7th March, 1836. It seems as though the Jones family emigrated from Wales to the US about 1841.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi. I'm looking for genealogy info on Thomas BEBB who married
Elizabeth "Betsy" DeArmond in (I think) Butler Co Ohio around 1836
or so. The LDS site says that Edward and Margaret Evans Bebb were
his parents, but they have LOTS of errors, and somewhere on your
site I read that Edward and Margaret had only 3 children - the
governor plus (per someone on Ancestry.com) Evan Roberts Bebb and
Mary Bebb Vaughn. No Thomas.
But the DeArmonds were in Butler Co, and so, I would assume, was
Thomas Bebb. In fact, my DeArmond family sources say that Betsy and
Thomas remained in
Butler Co and were buried at Shandon. I'm mostly just curious about
this puzzle. My ggrandmother was one of Betsy's younger
sisters.
Thanks, Nancy Sween

Elaine is looking for Barbara Bebb:

Barbara Bebb, married Jim/James Gillard and had Jeremy
Gillard.
Jim Gillard was the son of Francis Gillard (born 1902) and Vera
Trow.
Jim and Vera lived in Treorchy. Jim was one of 11 children whose
father was James Gillard (1870 - 1947) and Margaret Kate
Davidge.
Una Bragg's family came to Ohio from Wales. She would very much
like to find the name of the ship that they came on. If you can
help, please email her on

But my GGG William Bebb came to America
with some children in either 1815/1816 as the record shows. I know
that my Edward ( GG gpa ) left Ohio and came to Iowa I believe if
memory serves me correctly 1852, this is written in a book by
family on the Evans side,
Margaret Evans married this Edward my GG gpa...I have two books on
our family and the Governor of Ohio William Bebb and many of the
people that came to Ohio in those days from Wales. Wonderful
books.
This is some info that may pin point my GGG William Bebb and Ann
Evans.:
Wm Bebb B:1780 in Llanbrynmair...Married Ann Evans 1804 in
Wales
Died: Oct 2, 1852 Paddy's Run renamed Shandon, Oh
Wife Ann Evans..M;1804 at 24 years of age.
Born: 1780 Wales D: Mar 30th 1849 age 69. at Shandon, Oh
They came to America to Shandon, Oh in 1815/1816 from Llanbrynmair,
Wales in
the Parish of Montgomery
The Parish records includes nearby Carno, Wales
Wm Bebb was Naturalized on Sept 8th 1828 Butler Co, Oh
Records of 1820 Census Chandon Cemetery records New London in
Butler County,Oh. They came over I believe with three son, maybe
William was a Baby on that trip from Llanbrynmair, because Edward
and Thomas I believe were older than William....who died very young
shooting fireworks for the 4th of July and is buried also at
Shandon Cemetery. I think they all are buried there even some
grandchildren of GGGgpa Williams.
